CURIOUS ENTANGLEMENTS
Produced during 2023, in my studio at the University of Johannesburg.
Using local earthenware slips, a transparent glaze, with applied debris and transfers of my scanned and digitally enhanced ballpoint pen drawings of mycelium into fractals. Body Fired to 1120 degrees in Celsius.
The Earthenware Slip cast vessels are much larger than the latest high fired Parian Clay body vessels. With greater expressive surface developments - however the vessels in the earthenware clay body are not as refined (they are heavier, crude), with obvious blemishes, in terms of glaze application (a glaze slop painted on). The vessel is painted white with a white underglaze colour – not as sophisticated when handled up close.

DRAWINIGS & FRACTALS
Ballpoint pen drawing of the Fungi/Mycelium A2 in size. Scanned and altered digitally into fractals, two examples of which are shown on the right bottom. They are emailed to Digital Ceramics in England where they are printed as Ceramic Transfers in various sizes – they are applied to the final ceramic vessels – in the latest work, the clay body is self-glazing, ensuring the transfer adheres to the smooth, translucent white clay body.
